Oh Fiona. How difficult this pregnancy has been.
When I found out I was pregnant I was so excited. I wanted to tell Chris right away, but it was a few days before father's day and I knew it would be a great surprise for him. We were both so happy. There were many loving nights spent thinking of who you would be, a boy or a girl? What name would best suit you. Chris and I going though all the names we could think of. Margot had a few to suggest as well! She was really stuck on naming you after a black hole, Sagittarius, for a while. She even told her teacher at school.
In the beginning I had bad morning sickness, just like I had with Margot. Once the morning sickness started to get better the heartburn and back pain came! Not to mention those night time leg cramps. The real icing on the cake has been a diagnosis of Gestational Diabetes. Gestational Diabetes is when your placenta causes insulin resistance. I am just hopeful you are healthy. I worry all the time about you! When you are pregnant you kind of give up a lot about yourself. I can't just bend over and put on socks. I can't just get down on the floor and straight back up. I rarely sleep through the night. It's all really hard already. Having a medical condition on top of it really feels defeating.
Chris gave up his office so that you could have a nursery. Watching him work so hard has been so admirable. He is the kind of man who will do anything for all of us and I am so grateful for that. We purchased a shed and refinished it for him to move his office in. Margot moved her room to his old office and you are getting Margot's old room.
Margot was so excited about the baby shower. She wants me to put up pictures of her up all throughout the venue for the shower. She says "because you thought I was so cute when I was a chubby baby, right mom?" and we have both told her she has already had her own baby shower but she thinks since you are not here yet and we have no baby photos of you she will have to use her photos for the shower.
Your baby shower has now come and gone. We have the nursery ready. We have our hospital bag packed. We are just waiting on you! We had such fun at your baby shower. We played a musical chair scavenger hunt game like the one we played at our wedding where players went out and found baby things and brought them back to their chairs but there would be one less chair each time. We played a game with the kids where they had to change a dirty baby diaper. We had guests make playdoh babies. We also did a game where guest drew a baby on their forehead. I was a little disappointed that we had the shower in NC. We wanted my family to be able to attend and most of them didn't show up. We know our friends from SC would have been there to celebrate Chris, Margot, and me. At the end of the day though it was a lot of fun and those who came had a great time! There are so many people so eager to meet you.
February 21, 2023 at 6 a.m. your father and Nana and I arrived at St. Francis Eastside for my induction. Around 10 a.m. I began having contractions and at 2:00 I began pushing you out. At 2:37 you were here. You were 7lbs 13 oz and 20 inches long. You have dark black hair just like your daddy did when he was born. You have my long toes. You were wide eyed and so alert as soon as you came out and into this world, just like your big sister was. Margot, Nana, Grandka, Lane, Uncle Carl, Gigi, and Grandpa Jerry were all at the hospital eager to meet you. Your great grandmother Anna Story, great grandmother Margaret Crump, and great grandfather Ricky Crump all came the next weekend to meet you. I write this almost a month after your birth and you are rather attached to me carrying you. As I write this you are snuggled up in a baby wrap carrier breathing softly as you sleep. Your big sister Margot has been such great help with you and absolutely adores you. Almost every morning and night she will give you a hug and kiss.
You are the sweetest little thing and so incredibly loved. All I can ever think is how wonderfully full our hearts are. Can't wait to watch you grow.
